History of MBC Dynamo Moscow

Men's Basketball Club Dynamo Moscow is a part of the All-Russian Sports Society "Dynamo", and was founded in 1923.

Dynamo Moscow has twice won the USSR Championship (1937 and 1948), and is twice the second prize-winner of the USSR championship (1944 and 1990) as well as twice Russian championship second prize-winner (1995 and 1996) and is also is an eight time USSR championships Bronze medalist (1946, 1957, 1958, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1980, 1982), once CIS championship Bronze medalist (1992) and Russian Superleague championship Bronze medalist (2004). In 1950 and 1952 Dynamo Moscow was the USSR Cup finalist.

This past season MBC Dynamo Moscow won the Russian Superleague Championship Silver medal.

In Europe competitions MBC Dynamo Moscow has reached the semifinals of the Cup of Cup Winners (1991) as well as of the European Cup (1996).

In 1997 due to financial problems Dynamo Moscow ceased to exist.

The revival of the club occurred in the spring of 2001. MBC Dynamo Moscow was created thanks to the support of All-Russian Sports Society "Dynamo" and its chairman Vladimir Pronichev. Dynamo Moscow won the Russian Superleague B in season 2001/02 and returned to the elite of the Russian basketball by joining the Russian Superleague A. Later the club once more came across with some financial problems, but after intervention of Moscow city organization �Dynamo� chairman Victor Zakharov and its first assistant Vladimir Mikhalevsky all of the problems were solved and the club now is one of the most financially sound European Basketball teams.

Thanks to the management Moscow city organization "Dynamo", in 2002 MBC Dynamo has been accepted in the structure of Moscow city "Dynamo" organization.

MBC Dynamo Moscow president is the highly decorated coach of the USSR and Russia, Olympic champion Evgeny Gomelsky. The head coach of the team is the well known and respected coach Dusan Ivkovic, who has won more titles than any other European coach.

Dynamo Moscow players constantly played and play for the national team and became champions and prize-winners of the Olympic Games, European and World championships. Just to mention some of them, we have the Olympic champion Alexander Boloshev, the World champion Vladimir Zhigily and the Olympic Games prize-winner Alexander Petrov).

MBC Dynamo Moscow players Dmitry Domani, Feodor Likholitov have successfully played and play for the Russian National Men�s Team.

Except of these well-known sportsmen, every season the team makes its best efforts to sign high quality players and is expected to do so this season.

Besides the first team there is the second command in the structure of �Dynamo-2� whose head coach is the deserved coach of Russia Alexander Sidyakin, and also the children and youth school "Dynamo" whose director is Oleg Zaikin and the head coach is the deserved coach of Russia, Evgeny Tomilin.

�Dynamo-2� competes in the Russian Superleague B of the Russian championship. There are a many talented players in Dynamo-2 who as recently as last year helped the Men�s team such as Sergey Karmazinsky (195 cm) and Jury Vasilyev (207 cm).

The children and youth school "Dynamo" is a reserve for �Dynamo-2�. It plays in youthful basketball league and prepares the perspective basketball players under the age of 17. Young Dynamo players Pavel Gromyko, Dmitry Khvostov, Konstantin Berkov, Vitaly Kuznetsov and Ilya Syrovatko are the base of the Russian National Cadet team (young men under the age of 16), which during the 2004 European championship won the Silver Medal.
